What's new in Digsbyland?
We hope you will check on this website for our updates, rather than just emails! We are still being blown away by the curiosity, energy, and determination of our son. Thomas turned 2 years old recently (Nov. 4), so he got plenty of practice at his Elmo Party for opening the presents that were to come in December. He had fun with this, and he took his “Helpful Elf” job very seriously, passing out gifts to all the family members with haste that made us all exhausted! We taught him that this was Jesus’s Birthday party, and that He was kind enough to share his presents with all of us (and we are thankful for his presence, especially!).
Thomas loved playing with our delicate porcelain manger scene set up on a glass table (that sounds like a disaster in the making, doesn’t it?). He talked about baby Jesus “asleep on the hay” and his mommy Miss Mary and daddy Mr. Moseph (yes, that’s a combo of Joseph and Moses), and he flew the angel around them all regularly to keep watch. He also told people when asked, that Santa (often called Noah because they look so much alike) would be bringing him “bath toys” – we have no idea where he got that idea, as he’s never asked for those, or seemed to need more. He has had other news to share, too - we told him once, and a few days later, you could catch him dancing around singing “Santa Baby” with the modified words “Santa baby in mommy’s belly….” Yes he is surprisingly aware that we are expecting our next little one on August 7 (historically safer to assume the week after). We are all so excited! Thomas talks about this little one 8often and is very concerned when mommy isn’t feeling well – he’ll come over and kiss my tummy and say “Mommy feel better nay-ow?” (yes, somehow he’s chosen some words to country-fy). He’ll be a sweet big brother for sure! He’s already shown that with his tender care for his two younger cousins - Imani (18 months) and the newest family member Nadia Noelle, born just in time to make the trip from Charlotte for Christmas as an 8 day old (born 12.15.05 to Jewelia and Jason).
He’s so in-tune with every little detail and change around…if he sees something that wasn’t there before, he’ll say – “What is that? Did daddy put that there, or did you, mommy?” (verbatim) Also, he will be handy for us to have around for name-recalling purposes – if he’s met you once, he remembers your name. I’m not kidding – today he greeted our elderly church greeter at the door, who he’s seen quite sporadically – “hi Jamie!” And if anyone is missing from a familiar circle, he will inquire about their absence. Within a moment of anyone stepping away, Thomas will survey a large group and say “where’d ________go?” and he would do the same for you if you went to the restroom J.
Thomas has become such a big boy in the past few months: from full detailed sentences, to saying thoughtful prayers, to doing chores like feeding Duke and letting him in and out at every whimper (including unlocking and re-locking the door), to being potty trained (I’m not sure who needed the “treat” more, mommy or Thomas – that was an intense day! We did the “Toilet training in Less than a Day method” – it really did work!). Anyway, we are excited to see how much more joy and fun (and challenge) God has in store for us with our growing family. Check on us again soon here!
